NB: the date of this event has changed — new date: 16 November 3 pm.To promote and celebrate inclusion and raise awareness for innovators with disabilities, the RAS and the British Council are hosting a special film screening event showcasing four unconventional independent movies created by talents from the silent world on 2 November 2019.
The four short films, three from the Great Britain and one from China, are selected among the six films presented in the 2019 British Council Inclusion through Art and Education programme.
- Big Mouth is the winner "for outstanding performances, for its passion, and for the handling of a range of heartfelt relationships" at the 2019 Brief Encounters in Bristol as well as the Winner of Best Film at Cornwall Film Festival.
- Silent Laughs tells the story of a stand-up comedian with a hearing disability performing on stage in sign language and living her dreams to entertain mainstream audiences in a playful way.
- Deaf Girls Monologue is a documentary about how a group of girls in Wuhan, China, steps up to spotlight and rehearses a play on controversial topics.
- The 4-minute short Deaf Rave shines a light on a musical event for people "feeling the beat".
