SHEILA GREENSPANHow to Look at Contemporary Art
This presentation will provide you with suggestions on how to look at and interpret contemporary art even if you are not an expert. Though we are always surrounded by such works, not only in galleries and museums, but in office lobbies, restaurants and public spaces they often leave us bewildered. We feel we must consult art historians, curators and critics, written explanations and other crutches if we are to know what to look for and how to make intelligent judgments. This informal talk is designed to set you at ease. In this lecture Sheila Greenspan will concentrate on the "looking" part of contemporary art - the part that the viewer plays. We will learn some simple and practical viewing skills and examine how each of us has the resources to engage with and have a meaningful response to the art of our times.
